Boss Logs:
After a three month hiatus, we are back! Why did I go on hiatus? I’ll tell you in this new Boss Log section!
I wanted to take the time off from March to May for multiple reasons. One, my mother was getting knee reconstruction surgery at the start of April. Knowing I will be the one who will have to be on instant stand by for her taking care of her, I wanted to make sure I didn’t have the pressure of a weekly comic going on at the same time. Two, I wanted to use this hiatus break to continue my work on the future chapters. By the end of February I had the next two chapters fully written out along with the first chapter having completed thumbnails. With that progress I then wanted to take the extra months to build up a buffer.
Even though I wasn’t making weekly pages, I still wanted to make a weekly update that wouldn’t require much work. So the idea for the hiatus qna comics came up, still posting something weekly along with engaging with the audience. The concept was great, but my execution of it was terrible. Originally all the hiatus comics were going to be very simple replies to answers and then done all at once to schedule (leaving opening for day to feature fan work or follow up questions), BUT I got caught up going to the hospital for nearly all of January, busy with various commissions and projects in February, and making final preparations for the surgery. I was extremely busy. And once April hit…I was still busy. Not only was I taking care of my mom and my whole household (Myself, Mother and grandmother), still earning money for bills and groceries through commission work, I also got sick in the first week! By mid April I recovered from my allergies and had made good progress on all my work including comic related work…until I found out my files got corrupted. And that sent me back because I had five pages ready for inks that were now lost….it wasn’t a good time. So I was behind for awhile. At the time I type this I still kind of am, but I’m in a much better position for sure. Never the less, the first page got finished and here we are!
This page was extremely intimidating to make -lol-. This page is basically a serious lore drop for the organization and needs to be visually appealing, but also not too detailed for stylized, ~mysterious~ reasons, and not me wanting to be ~too extra~ on this page (naw that all went to the skies). Dialogue went through a few rewrites as well, be it minor grammar adjustments or to make sentences pack more of a punch. Outside of that, the body bases are actually 3D models put together! This part actually took the longest because I was placing and posing each model down on the page. I did this because I wanted clearer silhouettes and I was running into me doing them by hand it just wasn’t coming out right. So We put the models up, then made my edits to fit in character detail and boom! We’re good. In the end, even though it took much longer than it should have, I’m very pleased with this page! I hope you enjoy it too!
